Indie Deck Review
When I opened this deck I flipped through each car When I opened this deck I flipped through each card in absolute silence. My whole world felt swallowed up in that little bit of gold in shadows.

That’s how it is, right? The way gold lights up in a shadow place, like bits of treasure in our darkness. I, for one, can’t help but follow its light. Each card offers us light in these shadows painted by French symbolist, Odilon Redon.

This deck, Oracle d’OR by Melissa Wotherspoon and Tora Matthews, is a deep dive into these dark places. An invitation to immerse yourself in these images and where they’ll take you.
I love the way this deck and book feel like a conversation with both the creators, and with me.

The big book, Unearthing Redon’s Gold, is separate from the deck and worth the hours you’ll spend pouring over each page.

The deck comes with a smaller book, The Little Gold Book.

In Aimlessness, I looked past the balloon face that moves at that same steady and listless pace, to see the shimmering lights of what might be.

Navigating The Deep would be far less noticeable without those pops of gold to illuminate.

The one moon eye of Eclipse to look through, is it shadows coming or shadows going?

The Spider. Those tiny gold teeth. I want to hear that story, I want to see that web. I think this one is my favorite card. Oh, and Wildness.
Wildness is a lovely thing.

The Meraki Tarot 2nd edition and the workbook that The Meraki Tarot 2nd edition and the workbook that Kerri created are lovely, soft, and perfect for the anyone that wants to build their own understanding of tarot.

The deck offers a few changes from traditional RWS imagery, while carrying the archetypal pieces in thoughtful ways. The book offers a place to record your own learning and insights, creating a tarot book all your own.

The third edition of this deck (with a few changes) is in progress and due out later this year.

The deck and workbook are available at Kerri’s website.

I wasn’t into the Winter holidays this year. I c I wasn’t into the Winter holidays this year. I cut out a few snowflakes, sent/rec’d a few holiday cards, and called it a day. Wasn’t having it. So what the heck, Xmas Elf? This level of cuteness is not my standard cup of coffee. But @Deckstiny manages to hook me with their ridiculously adorable and well-done decks time after time.

Just look at this rich red edge, flecked with holograms or the knitted holiday sweater vibe on the card backs. I always appreciate the dependably sturdy, matte cardstock. While this review covers the Red Edition, the Green Edition looks equally appealing.

It’s fun for the whole family. Here’s some color commentary courtesy of my 6 year old.

XI - "He’s mad. He’s saying - Cat! Stop ruining Xmas!”
XII - “They’re pushing Santa? Why would you do that?” (Me) Well, he seems stuck because of things he can’t control. People respond to being stuck in different ways.
XIV - The thought of elves doing latte art leaves me feeling cozy.

I love that even the tiny human made the connection between The Devil and Judgment

XV - (Krampus) “He’s being mean! Why would he do that?!”
XX - “Look, (Krampus) again. He's trying to ruin Xmas, but Santa won’t let it happen.”

I had a few chuckles over the little mustache on the 10 of cups. And I keep thinking about the rocking horse in the Knight of cups. Especially after seeing the delightful toy plane of the Knight of (wooden!) swords.

Meanwhile, the swords really bring my favorite aspect of the deck front and center: this is still a working tarot deck, with plenty to read.

If you too want a little cheer no matter the time of year, you can find it in their link

The Millenial Tarot is the deck I didn’t know th The Millenial Tarot is the deck I didn’t know that I needed.

Seriously.

It’s delightful, and funny, and so fucking accurate I can’t help but laugh.

The cards have all been renamed, the suits have too.

Cups - Feels
Wands - Vibes
Pentacles - Swag
Swords - Thoughts

The Devil is a Fuck Boi and the Tower is Dumpster Fire.

And, while all of those changes are fun, and funny, and deliciously snarky, this deck holds some real powerful imagery.

When the Fool becomes the Millennial, with its latte-head, how can we not see the way navigating our world from that whole ‘just don’t buy so many coffee’s’ rationale influences the way the Fool travels, the way the Fool experiences and is experienced?

The Hermit goes Off-Grid, not just looking inward but completely disconnecting from all ways anyone could get to them, and what does that say about the way the world is now that it isn’t enough to close our door but we also need to completely unplug?

10/Vibes = Burnt Out
Yes, good grief, YES. We are no longer carrying a sweet stack of wands, we are actually on fire.

5/Feels = The Ick
Look at it.

The Entire Thoughts Suit
It’s all in grays, with pops of red, just like so many of our thoughts right now.

8/Swag = Imposter Syndrome
I don’t know anyone that works that hard that doesn’t feel like this for a significant portion of our days.

It’s brilliant.

I used to joke that I’m the perfect product test I used to joke that I’m the perfect product tester for board game difficulty levels. Taking a new game out of the box and reading the directions has never been an easy learning experience for me. I learn by doing, by asking questions while doing, by losing multiple times and figuring it out.

So, when I was asked to review the Hoki: Fortune Telling Legacy Solitaire game I was both nervous and excited.

I didn’t watch any videos, I just jumped into the paper instructions and tried. I think I’ve got it. I had fun, too. This is the perfect game to toss in a bag and head to the coffee shop with.

The game has three decks, and three levels of play. The third deck, The Seer Deck, would make an excellent oracle deck (just my opinion) all on its own.

Hoki was created by Dave and Armine of Mek Mek Games and is currently on @kickstarter

The Sacred Revolution oracle by Oracular Astrologe The Sacred Revolution oracle by Oracular Astrologer, Lainie Love Dalby is a glorious thing. I’ve spent hours, with a literal magnifying glass, pouring over this art, these tiny portals to mighty places, just to see EVERYTHING that’s in them. It’s a sassy, sexy, nourishing deck.

Round, hot pink edges, collage art, big magic, and even bigger work to do. The deck has five sections to help you “spiral into your center and access your deepest truths”
- Re-member
- Re-wild
- Re-weave
- Re-turn
- Re-birth
The deck also includes channeled messages, keywords, medicine guides, and an interactive portal that offers videos or mp3’s for each other 52 cards.

I’ve spent thirty minutes just now trying to find the right word for it, and I keep returning to one.

Lush. This deck is an invitation to explore the lushness of all of me. And all of you.

The Story Medicine Tarot: Seaweed Sisters, Green E The Story Medicine Tarot: Seaweed Sisters, Green Edition by @thestorymedicine is the fourth deck in a series of The Story Medicine decks. I remember when I first learned about Jessica’s work, and the Story Medicine Tarot project. Four decks that could work together as one.

The Story Medicine birthed these decks

The first deck (self-titled) as an invitation to take the “Journey Into Woman” through the four pillar stories. The court cards in all of these decks become Daughter, Young Mother, Goddess Mother, and Grandmother.

In the second, the the four pillar stories are woven together through the Whales secret Red Song. The third deck, Baba Yaga’s Soup, invites us to where Baba Yaga meets us at the thresholds of the Five Women’s Blood Mysteries.
And, the fourth deck, Seaweed Sisters, brings us to the never-ending Homecoming.

Diving into these decks, seeing what is possible through the eyes of these women, has been a beautiful experience. This deck can be used for everyday readings, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out how deeply good it is for working through big life changes, deepening your connection to self as a feral thing.

There is quite a bit to love about the Seaborn Ki There is quite a bit to love about the Seaborn Kipper by @hermitsmirror and @siolothompson

Full of genderqueer merpeople, and soft watercolor, this deck offers a way to navigate major life events through the kipper system. I’ve spent some time working within the system (everyone knows I am systems-averse, lol) and I’ve found that I enjoy the larger spreads.

The people cards are reworked to be more relevant, and more respectful, for people today. I’ve always loved the phrase ‘when we know better, we do better’, and that holds true with these people cards. The original titles are included in parenthesis below the new title for ease of use.

The cards are bridge size and the guidebook is like getting a class from Thomas. Delightful, thoughtful, and thorough.

The indie version is limited to 450 copies. You can find them through the creators links and here:

I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing the 5th Spiri I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing the 5th Spirit Tarot (mass market edition) by Charlie Claire Burgess. The indie version was one of my top used tarot decks of last year. So no surprise. - I love it! But let’s look at this new edition, now accessible to a larger number of people.

The majority of cards are the same art as the indie version of this deck, some changes were made for copyright issues such as Mr Rogers as the King of Cups, but the new art still gives us the same vibe. The art in this deck is more vibrant and fills the frame of the card more fully. This is a change I love, and just makes some of the cards pop that much more. This is a deck that looks like my friends have invaded my tarot cards. The 5th spirit is a deck that remembers we all exist in this world and just might need a tarot reading one day. The 5th Spirit Tarot is full of racial, gender, sexual, body, age, ability and class diversity. Like I said, everyone is included. And not just in that token way where 20% of the deck is diverse, this deck is fully integrated and any 5 card + spread you pull is going to be representational. This diversity extends to the guidebook where gender neutral pronouns are used throughout so that so that your imagination isn’t limited in seeing who a card might represents.

The 5th spirit tarot is a pip deck and the indie version was part of me falling in love with pip decks, to the point I know prefer them. The pips in this deck are expressive as pips weather it’s the fireworks of the 8 of Wands or the donation box and it’s items of the 6 of Pentacles.

How does it read? I lost my lighter the other day. There I was trying to start my day with a traditional offering and no lighter. I pulled two cards: ace of wands (a lighter) and King of cups putting in his shoes by the door. And there my lighter had fallen into a slipper by the front door! My morning was saved!
