The Earth Child Tarot by Alyson Davies really surprised me! During the first initial flip through of this deck I thought it was cute and whimsical, but I didn’t think it would be a deck that I would use often…. but oh, was I wrong! This deck is an absolute delight to read with and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite go-to decks. There are only a few decks that I keep off my shelf and place on my desk, this is one of those decks.

So far, I’ve been using the Earth Child Tarot for my daily draws and it’s extremely intuitive. I find myself picking up things from each card before I even begin to really dive into the card itself, little phrases and thoughts come very easily. The imagery really sparks and comes to life on its own. The nude figures in the cards are sweet and whimsical. It’s just an overall adorable deck that is both readable and relatable!

The cards measure roughly at: 2.75” x 4.75”

I try really hard to narrow my top favorite cards down to three, but I had four this time, oops! Some of the interpreted imagery in this deck is very unique, and I love that! It strays away from more traditional depictions in some cards, while others follow the inspiration of the RWS based on what I can see.

THE DEVIL // I love a good Devil in a deck, and I have to say, I think this may be my favorite Devil so far! The size and stature of this “devil” is giant, they are right up in your face. It reminds me of a lot of my own struggles, how sometimes temptation can be front and center, staring you down and daring you. It can be hard to turn away.

6 OF SWORDS // The morning of my birthday, I pulled the 6 of Swords from this deck and it was so fitting! I was indeed turning a new chapter in my book, looking back at my past and getting ready to welcome in an unknown future as I begin the age of 36. I think this card will be my card for this year for me.

9 OF PENTACLES // A constant flow of profits and reward. I adore the color palette of this card and the imagery of a person sitting in front of their growing crops while surrounded by an abundance of harvest. It’s the gift that just keeps giving and you gave it to yourself through hard work and discipline.

THE EMPRESS // My birth card is the Empress and I always look for it in decks, right away. Usually I’m not that impressed, they are mostly cookie cutter images of a pregnant woman. In the Earth Child Tarot, we get that sense of tender love. A delicate touch in order to carry the thorn adorned roses. This card also reminds me to be careful with how I treat myself, I too am worthy of a delicate touch.

Oooooh how I love this cardstock! The card stock is soft to the touch and shuffles like butter. It’s so nice to work with and the cards really glide nicely, I’m quite happy and it has me grabbing for this deck even more often because of it. I’m a sucker for good cardstock!

Since the deck is standard size, it fits nicely in my hands when doing riffle shuffles and overhand shuffling. It has just the right bend without feeling too thin, but not thick either.

The imagery of this deck is what really has me in love. The illustrations look to be hand drawn using colored pencils and ink linework, it’s right up my alley as far as design goes! I really love the quirky lined borders, no two cards are the same. The colors are light, soft and calming. The color palette used in these cards make it feel very comfortable to look at and read with, I get a sense that this deck would be excellent for self-care readings and that is exactly what I’ll be doing next, a full reading for myself! There is a tender quality to the images that flows through this deck effortlessly.

The Earth Child Tarot contains flowers, nude folx, plants and magic, and I just love it. The deck feels and looks very fresh and creatively made, it’s very unique. I’ve been in such a rut when it comes to tarot decks but this deck has really changed that around for me. I think it’s the fact that it reads so intuitively that makes it a delight to read with.

The deck arrives in a white tuck box with an illustrated wrap, as well as a little white book with card keywords and short intuitive interpretations. While I do wish the deck box was a little more sturdy, I really have no issues at all with the packaging overall. This is just a personal preference and chances are, the deck will be going into its own custom bag soon enough!

I think it’s pretty obvious that I really adore this deck, I think what Alyson created is something magical and unique. I’m very glad to have this deck in my collection, as well as in my rotating go-to decks to work with!
